The Musketeers

I’ve been noticing that something was missing in this blog, it wasn’t complete. I was thinking what could it be, and it hit me like a lightning: The Musketeer’s story must be told! Has you’ll surely understand, the Musketeers aren’t Portuguese, or Spanish, or German, or French for that matter... The Musketeers are citizens of the world, and in order to be understandable for every Musketeer, this must be written in english.

The Musketeers are a Fellowship that has the purpose to enjoy the pleasers of life, as it should be! The Musketeers started in 1997 when two freshmen from the Catholic University in Porto (Athos and Porthos) established the pact to attend to every single event in the academic year, to always start the evening with a toast to female beauty and to preserve friendship above all things. That was an amazing year, and their objectives were fully fulfilled. In the following year, with the new batch of freshmen, they’ve selected three with Musketeers potential to join the Fellowship (Aramis, D’Artagnan and the Cardinal). The Fellowship would be known as 4M+1. These five friends kept their hopes high and their objectives untouched. They ruled their lives to sanctify the Musketeers code composed by these five guidelines: Beauty, Women, Love, Fun and Friendship. These were, and still are, without exception, a beacon in their living. As it is perceptible, the Musketeers are gentlemen, so no details were, or will be, revealed in this blog, but forever are printed in their minds.

In 1999 D’Artagnan and the Cardinal left Catholic University, but not the Musketeers. In the following years, the five friends maintained their way of living and always respected the Musketeer’s code, wherever they were, in Portugal or in a foreign country, the Musketeers became legendary. In 2002, Aitor from Miranda, Spain, came to study to Catholic University in Porto; he embraced the code and honoured it, and when they thought the fellowship was closed, Aitor became The Spanish Musketeer. And so they were six...

In 2003, Porthos and Aramis went to study to Freising, Germany, for five months, where they’ve met Peter. As it was expectable, these two Musketeers kept their patterns and printed the Musketeers way of living in Freising University community. In 2005 and 2006, Aramis and Athos returned to Freising, to the Freibierfest (an amazing university free beer festival). During all this visits, Peter embraced the Musketeers code, and naturally he became The German Musketeer. And so they were seven...

Although in different parts of Europe, with different cultures, the magnificent seven don’t forget what started ten years ago, what still unites them, what still moves them to try to be together, to find an excuse to travel, to re-assemble the Musketeers. And more important yet, to keep on living for what they believe: Beauty, Women, Love, Fun and Friendship. Long live the Musketeers!
